Myself and the team at Saward Marketing & Events have absolutely loved supporting the Newcastle Eagles Women’s Basketball team this year and what a season it’s been! 💪🏽🏀
Led by the incredible Coach Chloe Gaynor (SLB Coach of the year) and inspirational Captain Tiarra Hodges (SLB Team of the year), this team has gone from strength to strength, achieving their best ever league finish in regular season. On the court and off it, they’ve shown true leadership, teamwork, and grit.
Crowds have grown week after week, proving there’s a real appetite for women’s sport in the North East and real opportunities for businesses to get behind female role models doing amazing things in sport.
We’re so proud to have played a small part in their journey, and we’d encourage other organisations to explore how they can support both the women’s team and the fantastic work of the Newcastle Eagles Foundation.
Although I wasn`t at the sponsors evening and won`t be at our supporters event this Monday (I’m out of the country working another event!), the business will be represented, because it’s important the team knows how much we value their incredible hard work this season.
Well done too to the people you don`t see on court. All the full time and part time staff and the volunteers who make it happen.

We`ve been thinking a lot lately about how events don’t come with extensions or delays. When the doors open, you need to be ready - absolutely no excuses.
That’s why we believe in smart scheduling and solid teamwork. They`re everything to us at Saward Marketing and Events.
Long days on-site are part of the deal, but they shouldn’t be every day. We make sure we`ve done everything we can to prep before arriving on-site to avoid those long days and burnout.
We believe in leading from the front. So, if the team’s starting early or working late, Jack is there too. Whether it’s hands-on support or just making sure there’s enough coffee (and healthy snacks!) to keep things going.
I truly believe successful events aren’t just about hard work. They’re about smart work. Do you agree?

Jack`s back with another selection of top (still random) tips for budding exhibitors. These are a great sounding board to compare your current exhibiting plan against:
📦 Product
Don`t fall into the trap of trying to bring as much of your product range as possible - it`s overwhelming for attendees and a hassle for you. Instead, pick the products that best showcase the quality of the manufacturing and value of your wider range.
🤝 People
Having the right people on your stand is essential for making a lasting impression on visitors - and the best professionals in the industry aren`t always the best as operating a front of house role. Make sure the people representing you are able to engage with the public and serve as a great advert for your team.
🚀 Space
At a minimum, 30% of your stand should be space. When you overcrowd your area, you lose the ability to invite visitors into your space, and instead force them into the uncomfortably crowded walkways. By preserving space at your stand, you can easily draw attendees in and engage in conversation, without spilling into the walkway.

Late nights. Early mornings. And sometimes, both in the same day. Working in events means being adaptable.
One minute you’re on-site before sunrise, the next you’re still there well past midnight. It comes with the territory, but it’s not something you can (or should) do day after day without a plan.
That’s where good planning makes all the difference, not just in the logistics, but in how you look after your team.
For us, that means:
– Having the right people in place
– Build and derig schedules that are actually realistic
– Knowing when to take a break, eat something decent and reset
We`ve always believed you should never ask your team to do something you wouldn’t do yourself as a leader. If they’re starting early or staying late, we`re right there with them. Whether it’s helping get the job done or just making sure there’s coffee and snacks to keep things going.
Because getting the job done is one thing. Doing it well, and still having the energy for the next one? That’s what really matters.

We love being engrossed in events in the weeks before doors open, where we can really work deeply with our clients to ensure they have the biggest impact.
